RBG-ODS Project

(from Faye Collins)

From information provided by Chris Graham, Chief Horticulturist at Royal Botanical Gardens, a list of plants required to complete some of their displays was created. The first phase is to fill in the blanks in the Stout Silver Medal Winners Collection and the Lenington All-American Award Winners Collection. Both are located around the gazebo on the lower level in the Laking Garden. At the June meeting, members offered donations to the project to update the daylily display. Many of the plants have already been delivered to Chris Graham's group and others will be arriving after bloom season. Offers are still being received but any plants still needing to be located will be listed in the next newsletter. Thanks to those of you who have generously supported this first phase of this exciting project!

Note From Maureen

Last weekend's meeting was very successful in acquiring donations from our members for the daylily display beds located around the Gazebo in the Laking Garden at the Royal Botanical Gardens. The first phase of this project is to update their Stout Silver Medal and their Lenington All-American collections. Of the 52 Stout winners, there are already 39 growing at the RBG, 10 are being donated leaving 3 left to locate:

  • PLAYBOY (Wheeler)
  • MOMENT OF TRUTH (MacMillan)
  • JANET GAYLE (Guidry).

Of the 31 cultivars in the Lenington collection, RBG is growing 7. Donations of 15 will be arriving, leaving 9 left to find:

  • SKIATOOK CARDINAL (Hancock)
  • GREEN VALLEY (Fischer)
  • JEST (Searles)
  • WHITE FORMAL (Lenington, G.)
  • HOPE DIAMOND (MacMillan)
  • ORIENTAL RUBY (Fischer)
  • RAINDROP (Kennedy)
  • RED RUM (Pittard)
  • OLIVE BAILEY LANGDON (Munson, R.W.)

Faye Collins is co-ordinating this project with Chris Graham of the RBG. Faye's e-mail is out of service just now so I'm sending this message because we would like to get this part of the project finished by the end of June. If anyone has extra fans of any of the above plants and would like to donate them to the project, please either phone Faye at 905-655-9695 or e-mail me at mstrong@cgocable.net.

If you would rather not disturb your scaping clumps this late in the season, we certainly understand and would be pleased to wait until after bloom season for any donations!

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Maureen, on behalf of Faye Collins.
